Sharing God's Love for ALL

Our denomination continues to struggle with the divergent opinions held by the people who comprise the UMC. The whole church is in the midst of figuring out if and how we can continue to live together.

Here is a statement from Bishop Karen Oliveto, who continues to be a bishop in good standing, serving the episcopal area to which she was assigned last year:

This is what I know to be true: the Holy Spirit will continue to move in the lives of lgbtqi United Methodists. Some will be called to ordained ministry. Boards of Ordained Ministry will find them to possess the gifts and graces for ministry. And there will be those to whom God calls into the episcopacy. I am not the first gay bishop, and I won’t be the last.

The strength of churches like St Stephen's, with our clarity about broad inclusiveness, continues to make a difference in our own lives, in the life of our local community, and in our denomination. What we do matters, and we will continue to stand for what we have been standing for: God's love for all God's children, and our love for all our neighbors.

Happily in this community-Jeannie
