Reflections for Native American Sunday

You see, I am alive, I am alive
I stand in good relation to the earth
I stand in good relation to the gods
I stand in good relation to all that is beautiful
I stand in good relation to all the daughters of Tsen-tainte
You see, I am alive, I am alive

N. Scott Momaday

This week, preparing heart and thoughts for our Sunday of honoring Native Americans, I came across this part of a poem written by N. Scott Momaday, Kiowa, born (as I was) in Lawton. It spurred many thoughts for me: how healthy and whole it is to stand in good relation to good things, and to other people. This is something that should be with us as long as we are living! And why do so many of us choose to get ourselves into bad relation with good things – relations that don't benefit us or enhance our lives. Then how can we change the negative relations into positive?

I look to God as an important factor in facilitating the change that we need, and to faith community as important support in our quest to stand in good relation to all. As long as we live, our quest can continue.

Peace be with you........... Jeannie
