Overcoming Barriers

We just found out about new street closures by the church, which mean that people will have to alter their routes to get here this weekend. Some of you, especially those coming from the south, have been altering your routes to get here and other places for a really long time.

There are barriers to the shortest and easiest paths. Just like in other aspects of life. People who face various forms of discrimination have a lot of history with barriers, and alternate, more cumbersome routes. The disabled and the impoverished have obvious barriers to doing things the easy way. The same with people of color. Women, and LGBTQ folks have know years of barriers, the overcoming of them, and many times not overcoming them.

The message of Christ is that barriers are broken, overcome, ignored. And God's way is always an alternate route to the ways of the world.

Christ is our peace. He made both Jews and Gentiles into one group. With his body, he broke down the barrier of hatred that divided us. - Ephesians 2:14, Common English Bible

PS – We suggest coming to the church using 24th and Brooks this week. Fall
