Virtual Handbell Choir

Here's a video of the first ever Virtual Handbell Ensemble, featuring 440 handbell musicians from 28 states and 6 countries performing James Meredith's "Misterium." There are only five people from Oklahoma in this group, and they are all from St Stephen's!

Music Ministries

Music is a vital part of St. Stephen’s ministry. In fact, one of the most distinctive things about St. Stephen’s community is its passionate love for music and the willingness to accept the beauty of its many forms.

The core of St. Stephen’s Music Ministries is its outstanding Adult Choir. Consisting of approximately 40 members, the Adult Choir sings in both the 8:30 and 10:50 worship services. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with the goal of refining choral music of the highest caliber several weeks in advance in order to enhance the worship experience for the congregation.

In addition to weekly worship responsibilities, the choir also occasionally engages in special projects throughout the year, including a performance of secular music in the August, larger sacred music in December, a choral evensong on Good Friday, and special music for Christian holidays throughout the year.

St. Stephen’s Children’s Choir performs periodically during worship services and performs in a special musical program during advent. Children’s Choir for K-2nd grade meets at 4:15 Sundays, while 3rd through 5th grade meets at 5 p.m. Sundays.

The newest addition to St. Stephen’s Music Ministries, Bell Choir is offered for adults at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings and for children at 5:30 p.m. Sundays. An intergenerational bell choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.

The congregation enjoys the participation of instrumental solos and ensembles. Those who play orchestral or band instruments are invited to contact a member of the music staff if they would like to perform.

The music staff at St. Stephen’s consists of the director of Music Ministries, the choral accompanist and the church pianist.
