Lenten Devotional from Mary Oliver
I have had a devotional this Lent, on the poems of Mary Oliver. I had not known that the wild goose was an ancient Celtic image for the Holy Spirit. The devotional pointed that out, with her poem “Wild Geese”, which begins:
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Change of heart, change of life doesn't necessarily come through our guilt, but can come through our love for the world, all creation.
In these final two weeks of Lent, let that flying spirit show you some possibilities you hadn't noticed before.
You are blessed................... Jeannie
