Finding Beauty

Being around people from other places, sometimes I hear comments implying that natural beauty in Oklahoma is lacking. There is no beach, no palm trees, no redwood forests. There are no mountains (most think), no grand canyon vistas.

I tell them that Oklahoma's greatest natural beauty is the sky. People many times are stunned, who live where skies that are similar every day. Here, the sky is different every day, and many times stunningly beautiful. Every day this week, the sunrise has been spectacular. In creation, God has given many kinds of beauty. I think it's better to assume that there is some kind of beauty everywhere, even if unanticipated. And it's better to assume that there is some kind of beauty in every person, even if unanticipated.

Today I share words from the Sufi mystic Hafiz:

Even
After
All this time
The Sun never says to the Earth, "You owe me."

Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the whole sky.
