Adult Sunday School
July 9th, 2017
Choose to grow your faith in one of our four adult classes, offered between worship services, 9:45–10:45.
Challenges and Choices – Room 11
This week C&C will continue the theme of free speech and explore a major criticism/concern of the extremes of political correctness. In this case, the topic is cultural appropriation. What is it? Why does it matter? Should there be limits on who will tell important stories and how? When does emulation or adulation become theft?
Seekers’ Class – Room 12
Seekers class is continuing their study—Confronting Poverty from the Heart of Faith. Relive a transformational Faith And Reason seminar, to unite religious progressives, academics, and justice activists in solidarity to tackle the issue of economic justice. We will hear from some of our favorite Progressive Christian speakers (Crossan, Rieger, Meyers), but also speakers from other disciplines who will help us consider just ways to confront poverty in our nation and the world.
Listening for God Class – Room 6
This class is continuing their book study, Kitchen Table Wisdom by Rachel Naomi Remen. " This remarkable collection of true stories draws on the concept of "kitchen table wisdom"-- the human tradition of shared experience that shows us life in all its power and mystery and reminds us that the things we cannot measure may be the things that ultimately sustain and enrich our lives."
Roots and Wings Class– Community Hall
This class is continuing the study titled The Human Spirit and the Times We Live In.” Sr. Joan Chittister and Fr. Richard Rohr explore two fundamental realities of our common experience: The Identity and Role of Women in the History and Tradition of Christianity especially in the way we face and deal with the human experience in the world today (Chittister) and the Development and Evolution of Spiritual Awareness as it applies to contemporary human experience today (Rohr).
