Adult Sunday School

December 3rd, 2017

Choose to grow your faith in one of our five adult classes, offered between worship services, 9:45–10:45.

Challenges and Choices – Room 11

The topic for C&C this month is sexual misconduct. This Sunday, there will be a discussion of the context around the allegations against U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore. A poll last month reported that a plurality of evangelicals said the allegations against Moore made them more likely to support him, and Moore now leads his opponent.  Part of this could be a reaction against the "dishonest media" or a partisan willingness to elect a child molester instead of a Democrat in order to get votes for the Trump agenda. But it might also reflect evangelical and fundamentalist attitudes about sex and marriage with adolescent girls.

SeekersClass – Room 12
This class is working through a study from The Work of the People titled The Ridiculous Journey: Following a Nobody from Nowhere. A search for purpose and meaning in the events and choices of our lives. A costly journey with an unknown destination. A Middle Eastern homeless man from twenty centuries ago and why he still stirs the souls and imagination of so many.  This 6-session series on Jesus' invitation to follow him includes films by Nadia Bolz-Weber, Greg Boyle, Brene Brown, Emmanuel Katongole, Rachel Held Evans, Richard Rohr, and Rowan Williams. Join us!

Listening for God Class – Room 6
This class is starting a new book titled My Grandfather’s Blessing by Rachel Naomi Remen. Dr. Remen's grandfather, an orthodox rabbi and scholar of the Kabbalah, saw life as a web of connection and knew that everyone belonged to him, and that he belonged to everyone. My Grandfather's Blessings is about how we can recognize and receive our blessings and bless the life in others. Serving others heals us. Through our service we will discover our own wholeness and the way to restore hidden wholeness in the world.
